An evening workshop on the yamas and niyamas, the first two limbs of yoga according to Patanjali. This is a lifestyle workshop, and in many ways, the precursor to a good physical asana practice becoming more than exercise.
We will wade into yoga philosophy and discuss the 5 yamas, or restraints and the 5 niyamas, or observances listed in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. These are guidelines for right action and thought for those of us wishing to bring our practice into the rest of our lives. This workshop can serve as an introduction or refresher for the practitioner who wishes to better understand yoga as a process toward realization. I have found the yamas and niyamas to be incredible ways to aid in my movements as a human in the world, and am always excited to look where I am at in their application in my daily life.
In this workshop, we will do some light asana to bring us into our body, and then get down to the business of understanding each of the 10 steps that comprise of the first 2 of the 8 limbs. It will be limited to 10 students in person, and there will be a zoom option for those wishing to attend from their own space.
Investment: $75 (some scholarship available) in person, $50 virtual
Where: The Abode 1826 River Road Missoula, MT 59801
